Thing 12: Get Your Hooks into a Book

Teen Book Finder by yalsa is a good starting place for teen readers.

opening YALSA screen captureThey have a lot of good lists. There are at least eleven different lists, including, Readers' Choice, Teens' Top Ten, and Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. Under the search function there is the option to search by Title, Author, Genre, Year, Award, and Booklist. It is odd how the authors are alphabetized. There seem not to be much logic in the author sorting. Here is an example from the middle of the "T" list:
  • Tupelo Hassmann
  • Terry Pratchett
  • Tamora Pierce
  • Terry Trueman
  • Tanya Lee Stone
It could use a little more streamlining and updating. A lot of the authors and titles come up as "not found" (at least on the day of this writing). A better sorting option would be nice; a way to sort for or out graphic novels would be a great feature, too. I have looked something up on Teen Book Finder and then taken the scant information to Amazon to get more details. Once the quirks are figured out, this is an OK app.
