Your Reference Preference for Thing 11

Zinio is among our library's digital offerings. It is a pretty neat way to access magazines. The magazines stay in your account unless you remove the them from it. Recently they added back issues to our subscription. Items checked out from Zinio don't effect the item limit tied to your card in any way.

Using a computer a user can "check out" a magazine from the library's Zinio page. The magazine then is available when the Zinio app is opened on the iPad. It takes just a few moments to load the issue onto the device.

Depending on the magazine, there can be some helpful extras.

The screen captures above, from the February/March 2014 issue of Organic Gardening, show one of the features this magazine allows. The center image is just like the page from print version of Organic Gardening. If the Text button is pressed a the bottom of the page it becomes like the image on the left; text with no graphics. If you need larger print you can enlarge the text like the image on the right. To go back to the original click the Page button at the bottom.

In the Food Network Magazine, if you click on View Recipe under some of the pictures the recipe opens up.

Other magazines have links in the ads, some of the articles have links to items like building plans or videos, author websites, and other helpful information.
